Stewart an All-American
ALLENDALE – Northern Michigan University senior Cheyenne Stewart earned All-American status with an eighth-place finish in the triple jump at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday in downstate Allendale.
Stewart broke the NMU school record with a mark of 41-7 in the event, improving on her qualifying mark by more than a foot. Stewart was also an All-American in the triple jump during indoor season.
NMU freshman Jasmine Williams also competed Friday in the discus, but fouled on her attempts.
Thursday, Wildcat teammate Christina Toogood finished 14th in the prelims of the 1,500-meter run during the first day of competition at the championships.
Toogood set an NMU record with a time of 4:31.09 in the event, finishing sixth in the second heat. But the junior missed the cut for the finals by less than a second.
