Orva G. Barney
MARQUETTE, MI. – Orva Gladys Barney, age 93, of Marquette, fell asleep in death on Monday morning, May 19, 2014, in the loving, comforting care of her daughter.
Orva was born July 18, 1920 in Dresser Junction, Wisconsin, a daughter of John and Emma (Borns) Hillman. The family moved to Gladstone when Orva was very young and she attended the Gladstone public schools. In September 1942, Orva married Ray Barney, Jr and together the couple made their home in Negaunee, where they raised their three children. Ray was employed as a miner and Orva became a homemaker and stay at home mom. Following Ray’s death in 1975, Orva moved to Manitowoc, Wisconsin for a couple of years before relocating to Corona, California where she resided for 16 years. She moved to Marquette in 1995. Orva was an avid reader of the Bible, Agatha Christie and Perry Mason novels, loved doing crossword puzzles, working jigsaw puzzles, singing and dancing, playing charades with family and friends, and loved birds. Orva belonged to the Marquette Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Orva is survived by her children, Carol Hauserman of Green Bay, WI, Beverly Pascoe of Marquette, and Leigh Barney of DePere, WI; grandchildren, Heidi (Dean) Hilbert, Richard (Christal) Pascoe III, Jacoba Williamson, Ariel Williamson, Sean (Cecelia) Barney, Michael (Andrea) Barney, and Jacqueline (Rob) Clark; great-grandchildren, Hayley and Kate Hilbert, Aidan and Avery Pascoe, Graham and Eli, Jasmine and Marquis, Brandon and Christian, Jake, Jordyn, and Payton; a sister, Lillie (Al) Huddleston of Peoria, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Orva was preceded in death by a grandson, Peter Eliot Hauserman in 1997; sisters, Mae, Ruth, Esther, Margaret, Arlene, Norma, Lois, and Dorothy; and a brother, Earl.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Marquette Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Friday, May 23. at 6:00 pm. The memorial talk of comfort will be given by Gary John.
