Hawks’ Hoppe, Schultz pick up victories

FELCH – Republic-Michigamme picked up three wins, two by Josefine Hoppe, at a five-team high school track and field meet at North Dickinson on Tuesday.

Hoppe won the 1,600- and 3,200-yard runs in 6 minutes, 54.47 seconds and 15:09.87, respectively, in the girls meet as the Hawks scored 34 points to finish fourth.

Hunter Schultz took the 200 dash in 25.30 seconds in the boys meet for R-M’s only win there, though the Hawks finished third with 46 points.

North Dickinson dominated the boys meet, winning 11 events, while Forest Park took 10 firsts to edge the host Nordics on the girls side. ND’s boys had 171 points to 81 for the runner-up Trojans, while FP scored 122 to 114 for ND on the girls side. Carney-Nadeau just nudged out R-M for third with 40.

Logan O’Neil was the closest Nordic to multiple wins. He took first in the 300 hurdles and posted seconds in the 110 hurdles and pole vault. Forest Park got two wins from Bill Ragio, who took pole vault and long jump.

Kendra Campbell’s won three events for the Trojans, the 100 hurdles, 100 dash and 300 hurdles, while teammate Mary Grandahl added wins in the 400 and long jump.

North Dickinson pulled off a sweep of the relays and got wins in the pole vault and shot put from Deborah Starnes.

The same site will be host for the Skyline Conference finals at 2 p.m. Friday.
