Bianco named principal of elementary schools
IRON MOUNTAIN – With the retirement at the end of the school year of elementary principal Bob Strang, the Iron Mountain School District Board of Education Monday approved his replacement.
A committee of board members, administrators, teachers and a parent interviewed the five candidates on Friday with a recommendation made to the board at Monday’s meeting.
The school board unanimously approved hiring teacher Don Bianco for the position of North Elementary and East Elementary Principal starting in July.
Bianco, a graduate of Iron Mountain High School, is in his 17th year of teaching at the school district. He most recently has been teaching eighth grade middle school social studies, ninth grade world history and 10th grade U.S. history. He is also a junior varsity football coach and girls varsity golf coach.
Bianco received his bachelor of arts degree in secondary education from Northern Michigan University, a master’s degree in teaching from Marygrove College and recently in March an administrative certificate from the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals.
He also served during the past 11 years as a lead teacher for both the high school and middle school assisting Principal Maryann Boddy.
