Janice Sue Tuttle

SKANDIA, MI. – Janice Sue Tuttle, age 79, of 135 Orchard Lane, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. She had been in ill health for the past eighteen months.

Warmth. If you were lucky enough to have met Janice Sue Tuttle, you would know the feeling of warmth her kind and gentle soul emanated, touching everyone she encountered. She was the good listener, the patient guider, and the one who selflessly extended herself to create special memories for all.

Her loving home was always open to family and friends. Whether for big holidays or for simple get togethers, she was the giving hostess welcoming all with open arms, unforgettable food and spirits, and a special ambiance that made her home feel like your home.

Janice was born in Wells, MI on January 29, 1935 to the late Walter and Saimi (Maki) Nelson. She graduated from Graveraet High School in 1953. Jan married John C. Tuttle on June 19, 1954 at the First United Methodist Church in Marquette. She worked at Surgical Associates of Marquette, retiring in 1989. She was a member of Skandia United Methodist Church, where she was a very active member. Janice was also a past member of the Marquette County Fair Board. Jan and John spent winters in North Redington Beach, FL. where she attended the Seminole United Methodist Church and volunteered in their thrift shop. She enjoyed gardening, all types of music, dancing, and especially loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are her husband; John Curtis Tuttle, children; Curtis (Catherine) Tuttle of Skandia, and Jodi (Christian) Miller of Marquette, grandchildren; Katie (Jordan) Krook, James Tuttle, Krista (Andy) McCormick, and Jonathan (Kristen) Miller, great grandchildren; Josie Krook, Jordy Krook, Frederik John Tuttle, and Madelyn Miller, and sisters; Beverly Mayhew of Prior Lake, MN, Sandra (Thomas) Vitito of Curtis, MI and Maxine (Fran) L’Huillier of Marquette. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Walter and Saimi (Maki) Nelson, in-laws; Fred and Florence (Olson) Tuttle, and brothers-in-law; Henry G. Mayhew and Eugene Tuttle.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at 11:00 am in Skandia at the United Methodist Church, 189 Krieger Drive with Rev. Ben Bohnsack officiating. Friends and family may call at the church from 9:30am until the time of service. Lunch will follow at the church.

Honorary pallbearers will be Katie Krook, James Tuttle, Krista McCormick, Jonathan Miller, Thomas Vitito, and Fran L’Huillier. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the Skandia United Methodist Church or charity of your choice in Janice’s name. Perala Funeral Home of Negaunee is assisting the family.
