Anna M. Hupp
ISHPEMING, MI – Anna M. Hupp, age 99 passed away peacefully on Saturday May 10, 2014 with her family by her side at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.
Anna was born in Oss, Holland in 1915, she immigrated to America in 1926 at the age of 11, along with her parents and 6 brothers all coming a few at a time. She started in Kimberly, WI and ended up in the UP where she fell in love with the people and the beautiful country.
Ann was in Detroit when she married her first husband Martin VanderZanden and had 6 children. During World War II she worked as a rivet inspector making bombs. She came to the U.P. in 1948 where she married he second husband Clayton “Sibby” Anderson and had an additional 3 children where they lived in Champion until his death in 1971. She remained in Champion and married Clifford Hupp in 1973 where they enjoyed 14 years together.
Anna was well known for her sewing, pool playing and her wonderful pasties that she would make at home every Wednesday and sell to Champion residents. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 62 years.
Anna is survived by children: Edward (Judy) VanderZanden of L’Anse, Jo Ann (Harold) Galske of Green Bay, WI, James VanderZanden of Roseville, MI, Gloria (Gary) Nault of Georgia, Gale (Jim) Maki of Ishpeming, Andrew Anderson of Ishpeming and Bonnie Pelto of Green Bay, WI, many grandchildren and countless great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and possibly sixth generation grandchildren.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents Frank & Marie (VanOrrso) Zwiers, 6 brothers, Arnold, Frank, Carl, Morris, Mike and Antonne, her husbands Martin VanderZanden, Clayton Anderson and Clifford Hupp, daughter Mary Jane Tindle and infant son Carl VanderZanden and grandsons, Bobby Tindle and Clayton Maki.
A Celebration of Anna’s life will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at the American Legion Post 114, Greenwood Location, 3050 County Rd 496, beginning at 3:00pm.
Inurnment will take place in the Champion Cemetery.
Anna’s family would like to thank the staff at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility, Dr. Lloyd Hooper and Rev. D. Michael Carriere for their care and kindness shown to Anna.
