Thomas Theatre open to public
MARQUETTE – The wait is finally over.
On Friday afternoon, the Thomas Theatre Group finally opened its doors to their new state-of-the-art cinema in Marquette.
“This is a big deal,” said Thomas Andes, owner of Thomas Theatre Group. “This building is not here today without the extraordinary effort that was put forth by Gundlach Champion and these workers from around the U.P., 90 percent of the contractors that were here on site were from the U.P. and from Michigan. I’m very, very proud of that.”
Andes added that he would choose the U.P.-based construction crews or the other teams that worked to get the theater built over any construction crew in the country.
“The work ethic that was put forth here was monumental,” he said.
Andes said that the theater is a first-class facility that they’ve built including fully digital technology, leather seating and VIP sections.
“This is a state-of-the-art theater,” he said. “There are three people here right now that have worked in thousands of movie theaters across the scope of their career, and they would tell you that this movie theater would rival any movie theater, if not better than any movie theater that they’ve been in.
“I have said to you guys that we have built one of the best movie theaters in the country and I meant it.”
The Marquette Cinema officially opened its doors to the public at 2:30 p.m. today. For the full story, see Saturday’s edition of The Mining Journal.
