Prep track: Manistique boys win MHSAA U.P. Division 2 regional meet

IRON MOUNTAIN – Ryan Ramey picked up two of Manistique’s eight wins to pace the Emeralds to an MHSAA U.P. Division 2 regional track and field championship at Iron Mountain on Thursday.

Ramey claimed the 400- (54.40 second) and 800-meter (2:15.81) runs as Manistique posted 74 points to take the five-team meet

Newberry, behind Leroy Ward-Harbaum, placed fourth with 26.

The Emeralds also got wins in three relays – the 800 (1:40.40), 1,600 (3.52.89) and 3,200 (9:21.57).

Other Manistique winners were Tony Floyd in the 100 dash (11.72), Corban Ryan in the 300 hurdles (47.58) and Tyler Kangas in the discus (113 feet, 6 inches).

Ward-Harbaum, meanwhile, won three events for the Indians, the 200 dash (23.32), high jump (5-10) and long jump (19-3).

In the girls’ portion of the meet, St. Ignace took top team honors with 80 points. Newberry finished second with 46 and Manistique third with 36.

Natalie Beaulieu of Newberry claimed three triumphs – the 1,600 run (5:38.95), 800 run (2:36.90) and the 3,200 run (12:19.0).

Teammate Taylor Bryant captured the 300 hurdles (50.78), while Newberry also claimed two relays – the 1,600 (4:39.36) and 3200 (11:37.76).

Manistique’s lone winner was Brittney Zellar in the pole vault (7-6).
