Prep baseball: Marquette pitchers stymie Newberry in doubleheader
NEWBERRY – It was a good day for Marquette Senior High School starting pitchers Wednesday in Newberry.
Brett Beauchamp and Garrett Finkbeiner allowed one earned run in a combined 10 innings of work in an 11-1 and 11-0 doubleheader sweep for the Redmen over the Indians.
Beauchamp allowed one run on seven hits and a walk while striking out four in the first game.
He got plenty of hitting support as Brendon Higbie went 3-for-4 and knocked in a run, and both Gabe Apple and Jacob Olson went 2-for-4. Apple also plated a run.
In the second game, Finkbeiner blanked the Indians over five innings. He gave up just four hits and three walks while fanning three.
Teammate Brandon Lotterman finished up, tossing a one-hit scoreless sixth inning for the Redmen (8-6).
Brad Brow went 1-for-3 with three RBIs for the Redmen. Apple and Beauchamp added two RBIs each.
“I’m not going to complain about 10 hits in each of the two games,” MSHS head coach Todd Koski said.
“Our pitchers also hit their spots and were solid defensively.
“I’m real happy with our performance.”
