Prep softball: Manistique sweeps Ishpeming

MANISTIQUE – The Manistique High School girls’ softball team (9-4-1) consistently took advantage of its opponent’s mistakes and rallied at the right time to win 7-2 and 20-10 over visiting Ishpeming on Friday.

The Emeralds rallied in the first game when Sydney Chartier smacked a two-run double and Bre Richer secured a base hit that scored Chartier

“(Ishpeming) threw the ball around a lot. That’s how we scored twice in the fifth inning,” Manistique head coach Jessica Nord said. “(It) took until the sixth for our bats to finally wake up.”

Richer was the winning pitcher in the first game, tallying 10 strikeouts, while allowing just two earned runs and two walks.

In the second game, the Hematites (4-2) led 4-1 in the second inning, but the Emeralds rallied to score six runs to make it 7-4.

After Ishpeming had tallied three runs, the Emeralds scored three runs to make it a 10-7 game after the third’

Manistique finished the game with 15 hits, while Ishpeming accumulated nine.

Ashley Menominee took the mound win, recording five strikeouts and no walks. Menominee also went 3-for-5 at the plate, with two RBIs.

Richer went 3-for-5, with two doubles and two RBIs.
