Prep girls soccer: Rieboldt leads Marquette in road shutout of Kingsford

KINGSFORD – Sophomore Madison Rieboldt scored three times as Marquette Senior High school shut out Kingsford 8-0 in high school girls soccer Wednesday at Commemorative Field in Kingsford.

The Redettes tallied four goals in each half, with the match called at the 49-second mark because of the mercy rule.

“I liked our ball control,” said a “very pleased” Marquette coach Dan LeBert. “They were passing instead of booting the ball. That’s what we work on. They spread the field and played as a team.”

Cased Durand and Deni Peterson scored first-half goals along with two from Rieboldt.

Mikayla Blight, Makaela Burse, Rieboldt and Alex Hillier found the net in the second half.

“They were the better team in the beginning,” Kingsford coach Todd Formolo said. “They got shots off and we didn’t. They were organized and we weren’t.”

Sierra Carlson and Burse each posted a pair of assists while Lexi Guidebeck, Erica Cousineau and Kayce Mullett had one apiece.

Five juniors, four sophomores and two freshmen accounted for Marquette’s scoring. The once-beaten Redettes, with just two seniors on the roster, have outscored the opposition 39-1 this season.

“They’re a very good team and they’re getting better each game,” LeBert said of his Redettes. “They know how to move the ball around and make it tough on the other team’s defense.

“They don’t try to attack from one point. They attack from a lot of points.”

Marquette (7-1), with the lone loss this season to Cadillac, heads to Alpena next on Saturday for matches with the host Wildcats, Clarkston and Boyne City.
