Prep softball: Superior Central sweeps Houghton

EBEN – Molly Swajanen had a huge night, sending three balls over the fence as the Superior Central High School girls rolled to a softball sweep of Houghton Friday.

The Cougars won the first game, 8-2, before taking the nightcap, 9-2.

“The team is really starting to come together and is playing some real good ball,” manager Richard Swajanen said.

Molly Swajanen hit two of her homers in the first game and scored three runs. Brooke Pasanen earned the mound victory for the Cougars (9-2), firing a one-hitter and striking out 12. Bethany Pirman had two hits with an RBI.

In the nightcap, Swajanen homered again and scored four runs. She was intentionally walked four times in the twinbill. Vanessa Freberg was the winning pitcher, striking out eight. She also doubled, singled and scored two runs.

Pasanen had three hits – including a double – and scored four runs.
