Power outages reported in region
MARQUETTE – High winds and soft ground have combined to knock out power to more than 900 Upper Peninsula Power Co. customers, primarily in the Iron River and Escanaba areas, according to a company spokesman.
“The high winds have toppled some trees into power lines,” said Kerry Spees, senior public relations consultant for Integrys Energy Group, UPPCO’s parent organization. “It will be several hours before most customers return to service and others may be off until midnight or so.”
Spees said UPPCO crews from around the Upper Peninsula have been called in to assist in the Iron River area.
