Negaunee Invitational wraps up today with Class A championship

NEGAUNEE – The Negaunee Invitational Basketball Tournament wraps up today with 10 Class A games starting at 8:15 a.m. and concluding with the Class A championship at 8 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Gymnasium in Negaunee.

In the loser’s bracket, Lids Team Sports/The Bar of Green Bay faces Yooper Shirts of Ishpeming at 8:15 a.m. followed by Chris Boykins Outlawz of Lansing vs. Lewis/Skil of Traverse City at 9:30 a.m.

In the winner’s half of the bracket, Main Event of Detroit takes on Racine (Wis.) Team Select at 10:45, followed by John 3:16 of Milwaukee vs. Stonehouse Windows and Doors at noon.

Saturday’s game-action was capped by Lewis/Skil’s 82-64 win over Detroit in the loser bracket. Nate Jennings had 18 points and Mike McClary had 13 for Lewis/Skil. Brian Woodlad and Lionel Sullivan both scored 22 for Detroit.

Lids needed double overtime to stay alive and boot MAB of Southwest Michigan, 119-115. Harry Boyce led Lids with 23 points while Deion James and Steve Baker both had 22. For MAB, Terrence Shaw posted 32 points and Courtney Blackmore had 25.

Yooper Shirts took out the WSBL All-Stars of Duluth 23 points from Devin Scott and 21 from Dustin Brancheau in the 87-77 win. Keegan O’Neil had 30 and Bart Bailey finished with 20 for WSBL.

Stonehouse edged the Outlawz, 77-75, behind 23 points by Matt Cameron and 16 by Josh Buettner. For the Outlawz, Kevin Tiggs had 24 and JuJuan Cooley scored 20.

John 3:16 beat Lewis/Skil, 70-67, with Domigue Sharp posting 21 points and Andrew Tobias adding 13. For Lewis/Skil, McClary had 20 and Travis Schuba had 17.

Racine topped Lids, 99-95. Racine was led by 19 points from Reggie Bunch and 17 from Jarell Thomas. James scored 30 for Lids while Josh Metzger had 23.

Yooper Shirts fell, 96-66, to Main Event. Olumide Olafi had 24 points and Rob Brown had 16 for Main Event. For Yooper Shirts, Devin Scott had 17 points and Dustin Scott scored 14.

Six players scored in double figures to lead Detroit over the Kenosha (Wis.) Ballers, 97-70. Sullivan had 19 points and Charles Reed posted 15 for Detroit. Kenosha was led by Morris Thomas’ 22 points while teammate Damon Osborne scored 15.

WSBL opened the day’s action with a, 75-67, win over Threads of Milwaukee. Bailey had 21 points and O’Neil had 19 for WSBL. For Threads, Mike Shaw led with 21 points and Rion Ryafield totaled 12.
