Monthly community dinner Sunday
ISHPEMING – A monthly community dinner will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Hope Free Ev. Lutheran Church in West Ishpeming.

Lyceum program held on Sunday
ISHPEMING – The Friends of the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library will sponsor a lyceum program at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Ray Leverton Community Room on the lower level of the library.
Local author Dan Fountain will be giving a presentation on gold and silver mining in Marquette County.
Basing on his new book, “Michigan Gold & Silver: Mining in the Upper Peninsula,” Fountain will recount tales of some of the earliest explorations for the precious metals.
From the shafts sunk for silver at Marquette’s Presque Isle in the 1840s, to the silver-lead boom near Silver Lake in the 1860s, to the gold rush in the Ishpeming area in the 1860s, the stories will be illustrated with images from Fountain’s collection of historical photos and documents. Light refreshments will be served by the Friends of the Library.
Community jam at Peter White
MARQUETTE – A community jam celebrating traditional folk music will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Community room of the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.
Guitar, fiddle, banjo, dulcimer, bass players and singers are invited to try their hand at great old time tunes by Peter, Paul and Mary, the Carter Family, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan and others.
A limited quantity of sheet music is available for use for those not familiar with the songs.

Rock and mineral club to meet
ISHPEMING – The Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club will be meeting at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Cliff Shaft Mine Museum, 501 W. Euclid St. in Ishpeming.
Doors open at 1 p.m.
There will be a mineral silent auction. Mineral specimens will be from the local area, Upper Peninsula and across the United States and will be from the club and club member’s personal collections. A business meeting will follow the program.

Croatian chicken fundraiser set
ISHPEMING – Ishpeming Youth Wrestling is holding a Croatian chicken dinner fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Martin Sports in Ishpeming.
Half of a chicken dinner is $10, a quarter chicken dinner is $7, both come with coleslaw and a roll. To order, call 250-2911.
Movie Magic holds ’42’ screening
CALUMET – The Calumet Theatre’s Movie Magic Film Series will show the 2013 movie “42” at 3 p.m. Sunday at The Calumet Theatre, Calumet.
The movie is the story of Jackie Robinson, the first African-American baseball player in Major League Baseball.
In 1946, Robinson breaks the unspoken color line and endures unrelenting racism as he follows his passion – baseball.
