MARQUETTE – The city of Marquette Elections Board on Thursday verified seven candidates for the Marquette City Commission and five for the Board of Light and Power for the August primary election.
Running for commission seats are: Thomas Baldini, Brice Burge, Mike Conley, Peter Frazier, Craig Miller, Adam Robarge and Jesse Schramm.
There will be three vacant seats up for election. Mayor Robert Niemi, Mayor Pro Tem Fred Stonehouse and Commissioner Don Ryan can’t run for re-election due to term limits.
Since more than six candidates have filed to run for the commission, there will be an Aug. 5 primary to narrow the number of candidates to six. That group will move on to the Nov. 4 non-partisan election.
Candidates verified to run for seats on the BLP are John Braamse, Dave Carlson, Jerry Irby, Thomas Tourville and Kenneth Wanberg.
Two seats are open for the BLP. Chairman Edward Angeli and John Sonderegger can’t run for re-election due to term limits.
Because more than four candidates filed to run for the BLP, their names will appear on the August primary ballot.
There are seven city commissioners and five BLP members. City commissioners and BLP member are elected for three-year terms.
