Prep boys tennis: Westwood sweeps Gladstone on the road

GLADSTONE – Westwood spoiled the home debut for a shorthanded Gladstone boys’ tennis team Wednesday with a 7-0 win.

“We didn’t have a lot of players today, which was definitely a factor,” said Braves’ coach Dan Williams. “A lot of our newer guys were playing in positions they weren’t used to. Although, they enjoyed it. For some of our guys, this was their first high school tennis match. This was definitely a learning experience.”

The most competitive match took place in No. 1 doubles in which Gladstone’s Tyler Wells and Jeremy Kadish dropped a 6-3, 7-5 (7-6) decision to Westwood’s Garrett Wing and Andrew Duquette.

“That was a very tight match,” said Williams. “Tyler and Jeremy really came back well in the second set. They had their chances to force a third set. I’m really pleased they hung in there in the second set.”
