Prep girls soccer: Marquette shuts out Kingsford inside Superior Dome
MARQUETTE – Outshooting visiting Kingsford by a wide margin, the Marquette Senior High School girls soccer team blanked the Flivvers 3-0 on Wednesday at the Superior Dome in Marquette.
The Redettes dominated the time of possession and outshot Kingsford 21-2.
“Most of the game was played in Kingsford’s defensive zone,” MSHS head coach Dan LeBert said. “I was pleased by the number of scoring opportunities we created, but not in our efficiency finishing.
“I thought our ball movement was good, but we got a bit lazy at times.”
Shelby Ross led the Redettes (4-0) offensively with a goal in each half. Alex Hillier and Sydney Higgins drew assists on the markers.
Makaela Burse notched the other goal, with Casey Durand drawing a helper for the Redettes, who have now outscored their opponents 22-0 this season.
Molly Gaudreau was in goal for Marquette.
“Defensively, I thought we improved as the game went on,” LeBert said. “Lexi Guidebeck had a real solid effort (defensively).
“Overall, it was a good win over a tough opponent.”
