Arlene L. Young

ISHPEMING, MI. – Arlene L. Young, age 86, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away on Monday April 21, 2014 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility where she had resided since August of 2007.

Arlene was born November 24, 1927 in Detroit, MI the daughter of the late James and Esther (Hill) Morrall. The family moved to Champion during the great depression for work, and later returned to Detroit. Arlene moved to Ishpeming in 1964 to establish Johnny’s American Cafe, that she co-owned and operated. She loved to babysit her grandchildren and go for day trips with her sister and brother in-law. Arlene went on to work as a waitress at many of the local restaurants and coffee shops. She loved to babysit her grandchildren, along with summer day’s spent at camp.

Survivors include three children Michael (Charlene) Young of Virginia Beach, VA, Cheryl (Tom) Fleury of Ishpeming and Jeffrey (Ellen) Young of Ishpeming, a sister Audrey (Paul) Wuorenmaa of Ishpeming, 6 grandchildren Amanda Young, Greg Young, Mitchell St.Amour, Michelle St.Amour, Jessica Young and Jack Young, numerous great grandchildren, special nieces and nephew Diane Jepson, Beth Ann Anderson and Bruce Wuorenmaa, along with wonderful caregivers Nikki and Jan.

Private services will be held at a later date for Arlene’s family.

Arlene’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Grossman and the staff members at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility for their compassionate care of Arlene these past 7 years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the activities dept. at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility, 200 Saginaw St., Ishpeming, MI 49849 in Arlene’s memory.
