Seven NMU Olympic Training Site Greco-Roman wrestlers qualify for World Team Trials
MARQUETTE – Seven Greco-Roman wrestlers from Northern Michigan University’s Olympic Training Site qualified to participate in the U.S. World Team Trials May 31-June 1 in Madison, Wis., after the seven finished in the top seven in their respective weight class at the ASICS Senior Open Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Kendrick Sanders of Homestead, Fla., took first at 80 kilograms; Dillon Cowan of Harvard, Ill., at took fifth at 71 kg.; Anthonie Linares of San Jose, Calif., at 71 kg. and Josh Greer of Birmingham, Ala., at 80 kg. both took sixth; and Dmitry Ryabchinskiy of Brooklyn, N.Y., at 59 kg. and Nick Alvarez of Miami, Fla., at 66 kg. both took seventh.
The U.S. World Team Trials determine who competes at the 2014 World Wrestling Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Sept. 8-14.
