GINCC is busy, busy!

The Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce is busy! We are excited to announce that the 2014-2015 Power Book is now available at the chamber office.

This community guide, filled with our members, is the perfect option for anybody looking to live, work or play in the West End of Marquette County. It includes the business, the service clubs, area attractions, outdoor recreational areas, and some of the special events that we can expectthis year. Stop in and grab one.

I’d also like to take this time to welcome the Western Marquette County Health Foundation to both the Chamber membership and the Chamber building. We were pleasedto announce the agreement with the Foundation a few weeks ago. It is exciting to see this grantmakingentity established in Western Marquette County and its focus on our community. The Foundation is laying the framework towards making this a healthier community, while the chamber continues to make this a great place for business to thrive.

Having each board of directors work toward this mutual agreement for the benefit of both organizations was truly enjoyingto watch.

As Ashley briefly mentioned in our last article, the Foundation is also partnering with another chamber member, the West End YMCA, with a fundraising event that will feature the new location, while raising money for a healthier community. The Head to Head Bike Race, previously known as the Bell Bike Race, will take place on May 3 at the West End YMCA.

A unique take on traditional bike races, this event includes ‘teams of bikers’ that compete for distance, spirit and fundraising while spinning away in 25 minute heats. Now in its fourth year, this event continues to gain in popularity as people cheer on their teammates and look their competitors in the eye. You can find them on facebook or call the Foundation 204-2395 for more information.

As we talk about events, we’ve got a few great things going on with our members. It is once again Bowl for Kids’ Sake time, courtesy of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Marquette and Alger counties. This is a staple springtime event andlots of fun by an important chamber member. If you have not yet joined a team or pledged to a fundraiser, consider doing so or stop in to Red Rocks Lanes and Banquet Center on Saturday to show your support.

While I think I should stop talking about spring (since it feels like it will never get here), it’s important to bring up what really means spring to many folks- Rummage Sale Season. The Townwide Rummage Sale is scheduled for June 21and registration forms are available online and at the chamber. The committee for the rummage sale was excited to plan for the rummage sale on the same weekend as the Sportsman’s Triathlon and YooperIronman Challenge. Our community will be bustling that weekend with locals and tourists alike. Stay tuned for other opportunities that we hope to include on what will be dubbed “West-End Weekend.”

As a reminder, you can stay up to date on members and events by liking the Chamber on facebook or visiting our website www.gincc.org.

You can also email ginccmarketing@gmail.com if you want to be added to our email list and search your mobile app store for GINCC Directory and download the free app featuring all of our great businesses.
