William “Bill” Reed Fleck

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI. – William (Bill) Reed Fleck, age 78, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2014.

William was born in Negaunee, Michigan to Jesse and Martha Fleck. He was raised with three siblings; Jesse, Alene and Lillian. He was married to Marsha (nee Nault) in 1959 and they enjoyed 53 years of marriage before her death in 2012.

After serving in the U.S. Navy after high school graduation, Bill returned to Negaunee and attended Northern Michigan University. After graduation, he began his career as an Engineer and was most proud of his involvement with the successful development of the Saturn V rocket. Bill and Marsha settled in St. Clair Shores, Michigan to raise their family.

He was drawn to teaching and successfully changed careers to become a high school mathematics teacher, earning a graduate degree in Education, and happily inspiring the lives of the youth he instructed.

He enjoyed a long teaching career which included various youth coaching opportunities, and retired from Chippewa Valley High School in 1994.

He was also blessed with a beautiful singing voice, and used this to entertain his many friends and loved ones throughout his life.

He will be remembered by many as a charming and entertaining person.

Bill is survived by his three children; Steven (Lisa) Fleck, Patricia Carpenter, and Heidi (Paul) Grix, grandchildren Chelsea, Hayley, Elizabeth, Hannah, Chloe and Sean Paul, sisters Alene Christy-Prenevost of Iron Mountain, and Lilian (Sam) Racine of Ishpeming, and predeceased by his brother Jesse (Rose) Fleck of Ishpeming. He will also be remembered by many well loved nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends he made throughout his life.

A celebration of William’s life will be held on April 29, 2014 at the Moose Lodge, 33877 Harper, St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Refreshments will be provided.
