NIT: Meyer, Creative advance in Class EE

NEGAUNEE – Saturday afternoon’s Class EE basketball championship matchup is set after Meyer Family Vision of Republic and Creative Industries of Negaunee won semifinal games on Thursday evening at the Negaunee Invitational Tournament in Lakeview Memorial Gymnasium.

Meyer won Thursday’s opener over Tino’s of western Marquette County, 76-33. Scott Rodda scored 30 points and Brian Mattila 17 for the winners, while Levi Hietikko had 10 for Tino’s.

Creative Industries slipped past P.A.C. of Covington, 67-53. Zak Uren scored 17 points and Steve Ludlum 16 for CI, while Jimmy Veker had 19 and Andrew Rajala 10 for P.A.C.

Class E semifinals will be held tonight with Turnbuckle Teds of Marquette taking on Wilderness Recovery of Munising at 7 p.m., followed by Mary’s Kids of Ishpeming vs. Tune Squad of Negaunee at 8 p.m.

That championship will also be held Saturday afternoon, the final day of the tourney for all but the Class A division, which goes for three straight days starting next Friday.
