NMU track: Wildcats’ discus record falls
HILLSDALE – Northern Michigan University freshman Samanthia Johnson broke the school record in the discus with a throw of 143 feet, 2 inches to lead the Wildcats to a third-place showing at the six-school Hillsdale Invitational on Saturday.
Johnson won the discus and posted a provisional qualifying distance for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
NMU senior Cheyenne Stewart took first in the long jump (18-4.50) and triple jump (39-7.75).
Wildcats junior Olivia Howard finished first in the 5,000 meter run in 18 minutes, 29.31 seconds.
NMU sophomore Avadon James took second in the 100-meter dash (12.17) and junior Christina Toogood was second in the 1,500-meter run (4:36.70).
