Junior hockey: Marquette Royales saluted by MnJHL

MARQUETTE – A pair of players from the league champion Marquette Royales have been named to the Minnesota Junior Hockey League All-Tournament team – forward Dallas McLaughlin and defenseman Hayden Rajala.

McLaughlin was the league’s leading goal scorer during the regular season. After missing the Royales’ first two playoff games, he came back to notch nine goals and three assists in four games.

Against the Hudson, Wis., Crusdaers in the semifinals, McLaughlin recorded back-to-back hat tricks, including five goals in the third and deciding game, to clinch a USA Hockey Tier III Junior Nationals tournament berth for the Royales, along with a spot in the league playoff title game.

In the playoff final against the Dells, Wis., Ducks, he tied the game in the third period then scored the overtime winner to end his team’s successful playoff run.

Rajala was credited with consistently disrupting opponents’ passing lanes and blocking shots throughout the playoffs. He also assisted on two goals in March.
