NIT: Design One, Stonehouse triumph in Class B play

NEGAUNEE – A full day of competition marked the Charter Negaunee Invitational Basketball Tournament Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Gym.

In a 45 and Older contest, Design One of Gaylord took the division title with a 73-68 win over Lewis/Skil of Traverse City. John Hatfield (24 points) and Greg Upton (18) led the way.

For Lewis/Skil, John Gilbert knocked down 21 points and Todd Fewins scored 20.

Design One earlier drubbed the Bombers of Sault Ste. Marie (Ontario), 74-48.

Jeff Shoff poured in 24 points and Hatfield added 20 for the winners; Wyatt Poser notched 23 for the Bombers.

Lewis/Skil of Traverse City clubbed Forward Financial Credit Union of Niagara, Wis., 95-61, in another 45 and Older matchup.

Mark Hughes tossed in 19 points and John Gilbert 16 for Lewis/Skil. Brian Watt scored 21 points for the losers.

In Class B play, Stonehouse Window and Door of Ishpeming – with six players scoring in double figures – got 27 points from Josh Buettner and 19 from Tim Strom in a 113-57 bombing of the Milwaukee Spartans.

Dane Nelson netted 16 points and Mike Smith 15 for the Milwaukee club.

Express Cleaning Service of downstate Macomb topped the Raw Dawgs of Gwinn, 98-87, as Danny Stiefel (30) and Nick McGuire (22) combined for 52 points.

Brandon Krause tossed in 24 points and Kyle Aho 20 for the Raw Dawgs.

Also in Class B, Jandron Custom Home Builders nipped the McNeil Oilers of Crystal Falls, 67-64, behind 30 points from Eric Lori and 17 from Tyler Jandron.

Eric Peterson netted 15 points for the Oilers.

U.P. Insurance of Negaunee saw Anthony Armga fire in 27 points and Alex Culy contribute 20 in a 95-67 triumph over Wilson Trucking of Prescott.

Darrin Wilson and Jordan LaPlant netted 15 points apiece for Wilson.

The Milwaukee Spartans came back to pummel Slab’s Diciples of Kingston, 113-77. Nelson tossed in 25 points and Tyler Geary 19 for the winners; Brandon Jones netted 20 points and Andy Brezezinski 17 for Slab’s.

Also in Class B, 8 Cities Hoops got 25 points from Jevonte Hughes and 17 from Chad Nadolni in an 86-74 victory over the Raw Dawgs.

Aho (32) and Isiah Law (19) combined for 51 points for the Raw Dawgs.
