NIT: Stonehouse, Jandron’s open with victories

NEGAUNEE – Class B competition in the Negaunee Invitational Basketball Tournament got under way at Lakeview Memorial Gymnasium on Friday night.

Stonehouse Window and Door of Ishpeming opened with a 95-67 win over Durbinski. Josh Buettner scored 26 points and Tim Strom added 16 for Stonehouse.

For Durbinski’s team from all over the Upper Peninsula, Andy Lauscher tossed in 23 points and Jordan Young 16.

In a much anticipated encounter, Jandron’s Custom Home Builders of Negaunee dumped Slab’s Diciples of Kingston 104-53.

Jandron’s, made up of recent U.P. high school senior stars, got 20 points from both Tyler Jandron of Negaunee and Brandon Robinette of Escanaba.

Brandon Jones paced Slab’s with 22 while Andy Brzezinski had 12.

Kyle Aho (27), Isiah Law (23) and Brandon Krause (20) combined for 70 points to spark the Raw Dawgs of Gwinn to an 85-71 victory over the Executioners in another Class B encounter.

Michael Philippi scored 20 points and Shawn Wickerheim 18 for the Executioners.

U.P. Insurance Agency of Negaunee raced to a 101-87 win over 8 Cities Hoops of the Lower Peninsula. Mike Hojnacki had 44 and Ryan Rafield 19 for the winners, while Jevonte Hughes scored 25 and Brent Dicken 22 for 8 Cities.

Play in the 45 and Older division also got under way Friday as Design One of Gaylord toppled McNeil’s Oilers of Crystal Falls, 73-61.

John Hatfield fired in 28 points for the winners, with Al Rider adding 14. For the Oilers, Andy Borseth notched 22 points and Pete Pericolosi 10.
