Negaunee Invitational 45-and-older, Class B divisions begin tonight at Lakeview Gymnasium

NEGAUNEE – Class B competition featuring several former Upper Peninsula prep and college stars will get under way tonight in the Negaunee Invitational Basketball Tournament.

At 5:15 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Gymnasium, Stonehouse Window and Door of Ishpeming will take on Dubinski, led by Jordan Young and Andy Lauscher of Gladstone.

Stonehouse will feature former Michigan Tech University stars Tim Strom and Josh Buettner, as well as former Northern Michigan University and Negaunee standout Bill Hill.

At 6:30 p.m., the Raw Dogs of Gwinn will meet the Executioners. Former Gwinn High School stars Luke Ghiardi and Kyle Aho are expected to lead the Raw Dogs, with the help of 6-foot-10 center Jared Stolicker. Kyle Smith and Anthony Robinson, who played for Finlandia University, will spearhead the Executioners’ attack.

At 7:45 p.m., Jandron Custom Home Builders of Negaunee will face the Slab Disciples of downstate Kingston. The Negaunee squad will sport two-time Upper Peninsula Class ABC Player of the Year Tyler Jandron, as well as 2013-14 Negaunee High School teammates Eric Lori and Zane Radloff; former Marquette Senior High School standouts Andy Nyquist and Larry Burnette III; Alex Briones of Ishpeming; Justin Nyquist of Gwinn; and Brandon Robinette of Escanaba.

At 9 p.m., UP Insurance of Negaunee, with MTU alums Mike Hojnacki, Matt Estes, TJ Brown and Anthony Katona, will square off against 8 Cities Hoopin. The latter team consists mostly of graduates of Kalamazoo Community College and Alpena CC.

Other Class B teams in the tournament include the Milwaukee Spartans, Express Steam Cleaning of downstate Macomb, the McNeil Oilers of Crystal Falls and Wilson Trucking of Prescott.

Also today, 45 and Older play will begin with a contest at 4 p.m. between the McNei Oilers of Crystal Falls and Design One of Gaylord.

At 10 p.m., eight-time champion Lewis/Skil of Traverse City is slated to meet Northern Michigan University Bank and Trust of Marquette.

Other 45 and Older teams scheduled to compete are the Bombers of Sault Ste. Marie (Ontario, Canada) and Forward Financial Credit Union (Niagara, Wis.).
