MARQUETTE, MI – JoAnne Brown, age 73, of Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday, April 5, 2014, at her home.
Born November 2, 1940 in Laurium, a daughter of Joseph and Dorothy (Phillips) Vairo, JoAnne was raised in St. Ignace, graduating from LaSalle High School, Class of 1958. She attended Ferris State University and later Northern Michigan University.
In February of 1963, JoAnne married Henry Taylor Brown, who at the time was working on the construction of the Mackinac Bridge. The couple moved to the Marquette area, establishing their home in Harvey where they raised two sons.
JoAnne was a home- maker also working outside the home as a medical transcriptionist with Marquette General Hospital Medical Records, Marquette Radiology, and Dr. Barbara Lyons. She retired in 2009.
JoAnne was an avid reader, enjoyed craft fairs, working crossword puzzles, game shows, and looked forward to the Hiawatha Music Fest when she and Henry could camp out and enjoy the music. In earlier years, the couple loved to bowl and belonged to several leagues and teams throughout the years. Family, however, came first, and she took great pride in the accomplishments of her grand- children, always saving articles pertaining to their events.
JoAnne is survived by her sons, David (Stacy) Brown of Marquette and Daniel (Kathy) Brown of Brainerd, MN; five grandchildren, Ryan, Angela, and Alex Brown all of Marquette, Maren Brown of Boston, and Brendan Brown of Brainerd, MN; her brother, Michael (Pam) Vairo of San Diego, CA; a sister, Mary Kaye (Harry) Bird of Portage, MI; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and her aunt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Henry.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home on Saturday, April 12, beginning at 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon. Rev. Steve Hulke will officiate. A reception will follow in the reception room located at the funeral home. Spring burial will be made in the Park Cemetery.
