Ramon “Ray” M. Annala
ISHPEMING, MI. – Ramon “Ray” M. Annala, age 84 of Ishpeming passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where he had been a resident since February 2013.
Ray was born July 30, 1929 in Ishpeming to Matt and Elsie (Laakonen) Annala. He graduated in 1947 from National Mine High School.
Ray and his best friend Arlene (Mulgren) were married on August 16, 1951 after basic training in the U.S. Army. He served as an MP while stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Ray worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 29 years retiring in 1991.
Ray’s favorite place was Brocky Lake. He enjoyed trout fishing, cutting wood, relaxing in the sauna and simply puttering around the camp. He and Arlene happily spent most of his retirement there. Ray had a great appreciation for nature and was always happiest when he could be “out in the woods”.
Ray took great pride and pleasure watching his grandchildren participate in their favorite activities. He rarely missed an athletic event, Christmas program or concert. Ray led a very simple life and was a devoted husband and father. Faith and family were his top priorities. He was a lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church of Ishpeming.
Ray is survived by four children: Maribeth (Glenn) Bjorne of Oshkosh, WI, Dean Annala of Ishpeming, Gary (Dawn) Annala of Negaunee Twp, and Randy (Kathleen) Annala of Ishpeming, and a sister Alice (Clarence “Buck”) Johnson of Ishpeming. He also leaves ten grandchildren: Gary (Grace) Midkiff, Amy, Greg (Rachael), Jason (Mariann), Jonathan (Angela), Bryan (Danielle), Mikel (Shauna), Kate (Kirk Hooper), Mary and Matthew Annala, and eleven great grandchildren: Mason and Will Midkiff, Tyler, Tanner, Macie, Mikel Jr., Connor, Tate, Jonty, Marcus and Vivian Annala, a brother in-law, Doug Magnuson of Ishpeming and brother in-law and sister in-law Dean and Mary Lou Mulgren of Clarkston along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene in 2009, his parents and sisters, Mary Annala, Nancy Leitinger and Jean Magnuson.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery. Ray’s family will greet relatives and friends on Friday at the church from 11:00 am until the time of service. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Pallbearers will be Ray’s grandsons.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lloyd Hooper and the amazing and compassionate staff at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility for the care given to Ray.
