City shooting injures pair
MARQUETTE – Marquette city police are continuing to investigate a shooting that took place early Sunday morning on Bluff Street in Marquette that injured two men.
According to a press release issued by the Marquette City Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of West Bluff Street at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday on the report of a shooting.
The Marquette police service log shows a call was placed at 2:30 a.m. Sunday to report a felonious assault at 202 W. Bluff St.
The press release stated that upon arrival at the scene, police found two people who had sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Both were transported by ambulance to the Marquette General Hospital emergency room.
Det. Cpt. Gordon Warchock said this morning their conditions were unknown.
Warchock said one of the men shot was a 34-year-old man from Illinois and the other was a 21-year-old Ishpeming man.
Warchock said a 26-year-old Marquette man was taken into custody temporarily Sunday morning but was released after police spoke with witnesses at the scene as well as with the Marquette County Prosecutor’s office.
Warchock said the shooting took place inside an apartment in the residence, but declined to provide information surrounding the circumstances of the shooting.
Warchock said this morning police are continuing to investigate “several possible criminal acts that occurred that night.”
