NMU track: Wildcats finish fifth at Wisconsin-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University track and field team finished fifth on Sunday at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Rex Foster Open in Whitewater, Wis. NMU scored 93 points, compared to the 151.5 tallied by meet champion Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Wildcats senior Cheyenne Stewart won the long jump (5.57 meters) and triple jump (12.10) in the outdoor meet.

NMU junior Brittni Wirtz (12.15 seconds) beat out teammate Avadon James (12.17) in the 100-meter dash for first place. Wirtz also took second in the 200 (25.54) and James was third in the 200 (25.59).

Northern’s 400-meter relay team of Wirtz, James, Kellisha Harley and senior Sydney Schultz took second in 49.25 seconds.

“This was a great meet to see where we are performance wise as a team,” said head coach Cheree Hicks. “We had some good performances for the early part of the season.”
