Midsummer committee to meet

MARQUETTE – The Marquette Scandinavian Midsummer committee will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Marquette.

Participants may enter through the parking lot entrance off High Street and Arch Street.

All assignments for program booklet ads should be made by this meeting; booklet info deadline is May 2.

PATH?program will begin Tuesday

MARQUETTE – The PATH program will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays April 8 through May 13 at the Peninsula Medical Center, Marquette.

PATH, or personal action toward health, is a six week program that teaches practical skills for living a healthy life with health conditions like pre-diabetes or diabetes, obesity, arthritis, asthma, or chronic pain. Learn how to eat healthier, increase activity, manage weight, get better sleep, manage stress, improve communication skills, reduce risk of falling and more. There is no cost to attend and workshop materials will be provided.

‘Tobacco Wars’ presented at NMU

MARQUETTE – Patrick Reynolds, anti-smoking crusader and grandson of tobacco company founder RJ Reynolds, will present “Tobacco Wars: The Battle for a Smoke-Free Society” at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center of Northern Michigan University, Marquette.

After his own father died from smoking, Reynolds became an outspoken opponent of the cigarette industry. He serves as executive director of the Foundation for a Smoke-Free America, a nonprofit group he founded in 1989.

Its mission is to motivate youth to stay tobacco free and empower all smokers to quit successfully.

It is free to NMU students with ID and $2 for the general public.

Public meeting for education grant

GWINN – A public meeting for Gwinn Area Community School’s Title VII Indian Education Grant for the 2014-2015 school year will be at 4 p.m. April 9 in the library at K.I. Sawyer Elementary, Sawyer.

Refreshments will be provided.
