Ida V. Hinderlider

MARQUETTE, MI. Ida V. Hinderlider , age 97, of 1530 West Ridge Street, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Marquette General Hospital where she had been a patient for several days.

She was born in Skandia on August 7, 1916 to the late Carl and Augusta (Pearson) Peterson. She and her sister, Ellen, left Skandia as teenagers and moved to Chicago. They finished their education there and Ida went on to become a cosmetologist. In 1943, she met and married Claude Hinderlider. They retired in 1984 and moved back to Marquette. She loved being with her family, going out to eat and having coffee with friends. Her great niece; Tina Peterson, shared these memories of her aunt. “Today our family lost an amazing woman. My dad’s aunt, my great aunt and my boy’s great great aunt. She was 97. I was sitting here thinking of all the things she had been through in her long life. Woodrow Wilson was president when she was born! There have been 16 presidents since then. World War I was going on when she was born. She lived through the Great Depression, another World War, and the invention of so many things we all take for granted now. It really was an amazing time to have been alive and to have witnessed so much change. Glad she is at peace now.”

Surviving are her godson and great nephew, Jason (Laura Linna) Jilbert, special niece, Karen Jilbert, special nephew, Dennis (Judy) Peterson, dear sister-in-law, best friend, and caregiver; Helen Peterson, nieces: Margaret (Ralph) Voet, Judy (Ernie) Harsila, and Linda Kaebifch, nephew; Carl Peterson, and many great and great great nieces and nephews.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Claude, three brothers; Robert, Carl and Arvid Peterson, one sister, Ellen Peterson, and a nephew, Donny Peterson.
