Storm dumps snow, sleet on U.P.

HOUGHTON (AP) – A storm moving through the Great Lakes region has dumped several inches of snow on parts of the Upper Peninsula and could bring up to 17 inches in places.

The National Weather Service said snow began Thursday, with some reports of 4 to 5 inches by the end of Thursday, and more snow is falling today. The snow so far was in the western U.P., with freezing rain and sleet in the southern U.P.

Forecasters and the Michigan State Police’s Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division said driving conditions will be hazardous throughout the day and there is the possibility that the accumulation of ice will lead to power outages.
