NIT: Five players is enough for Shirt Tails in Class DD victory over Victorious Secret on Sunday

NEGAUNEE – Shirt Tails of Iron Mountain only played with five players Sunday, but all five scored in double figures in the team’s 97-78 victory over Victorious Secret of Houghton in a Class DD Negaunee Invitational Basketball Tournament game at Lakeview Memorial Gymnasium.

Lane Lindeman led Shirt Tails with 31 points and teammate Rich Poma had 26. For Victorious Secret, Ross Kinnenen hit 10 3-pointers en route to a game-high 35 points.

Also in Class DD, Minerick Logging of Sagola defeated Eastwood of Negaunee 74-68. Ryan Shamion and Caleb Pllizer both scored 23 points for Minerick. Jason Soderberg had 29 and Rob Koskey totaled 12 for Eastwood.

Herb’s of Rock scored a 83-71 Class DD win over 906 Adventure Team of Marquette. Ryan Barron had 23 points and Carl Branstrom posted 21 points for Herb’s. For 906, Alex Fleck scored 17 points while Bret Blackburn and Zach Shankland each had 14.

In the final Class DD game on Sunday, Lee’s Greenery of Felch topped Moose of Marquette 98-74 behind 29 points by Mike Miller and 23 points from Cory Johnson. For Moose, Adam Jones and Emery Gyr each had 21.

In Class E, Tune Squad of Negaunee edged Richmond Logging/Hoy Trucking of Trenary, 53-47. Austin S. Kowick finished with 14 points and Jake Forchini had 10 for Tune Squad. Ethan Richmond of Richmond/Hoy had a game-high 20 points while Michael Carpenter scored 10.

In Class EE, Tino’s WestEnd eliminated Dick’s Pump N Munch of L’Anse 73-66. Chris Carlson had 28 points for Tino’s while Matt Klenc had 13. For Dick’s, Andy Borseth scored 28 points and Pat Pesko posted 17.

In Class D, Steeno’s Bar of Niagara topped Matt’s Auto Glass of Houghton, 76-59. For Steen’s, Joey Swanson finished with 19 points and Ross Cassanova had 15. John Schutz scored 19 for Matt’s while Jordan Klennett and Eric Ruotsala each had 11.

The NIT resumes Friday with four Class C game beginning at 6 p.m.
