NMU skiing: Wildcats compete in U.S. Distance Championships in Anchorage

MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University Nordic skiing team landed two skiers in the top 20 of the 10-kilometer and 15K freestyle races at the U.S. Distance Championships and Super Tour Finals at Kincaid Park in Anchorage, Alaska on Saturday.

Junior Kyle Bratrud finished 14th overall and third in the men’s Under-23 class with a time of 39 minutes, 34.5 second. Senior George Cartwright was 21st overall and ninth in the men’s U23 (40:21.2). Freshman Adam Martin was 34th overall and the top men’s U20 finisher (41:46.0).

Senior Rosie Frankowski finished 17th overall in the women’s 10K race and fourth in the women’s U23 class with a time of 29:52.4. Junior Mary Kate Cirelli was 29th overall and 11th in the women’s U23 class (31:39.8).

On Sunday in the classic races, Frankowski posted a time of 4:26.04 finishing in 30th place. Cirelli placed 35th with a time of 4:30.97.

Cartwright led the Wildcats’ men in 37th (3:43.77) followed by Bratrud in 41st (3:50.16) and Martin in 44th (3:51.06).
