William ‘Willie’ F. Fountain
GWINN, MI. – William ‘Willie’ F. Fountain, 82, of 17 N. Billings St., Gwinn, died at 6:21 pm on Thursday, March 20th, 2014 at Marquette General Hospital where he had been a patient for one day.
Willie was born December 30, 1931 in Princeton to William F. and Pauline (Bertoldo) Fountain. He was raised in Gwinn, attended Gwinn schools, and was a lifelong area resident. Following school, Willie enlisted in the U.S. Marines, serving at Camp Pendleton, California. Following his service to his country he moved back to Gwinn and married Sharon S. Heikkinen of West Ishpeming. Willie was employed by Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co., having worked at the Brownstone and the Empire and Tilden Mines. During layoffs he worked for the family grocery business, Mussatto’s IGA, as a butcher. He retired from CCI with 42 years of service with the company.
Willie was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed fly fishing for trout as well as partridge hunting with his wife and grandson. He loved time spent with his family, especially when they were outdoors.
Surviving are his son, William A. (Shirley) Fountain of Gwinn; daughter, Debra A. Fountain of Gwinn; grandson, Ryan W. (Dakota Evans) Fountain of Gwinn; great-grandson, William F. Fountain; his two sisters, Irene Carriere of Marquette and Dora M. Mussatto of Gwinn; sister-in-law Jeanne Bogetto of Arizona; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Sharon on May 24th, 2013; granddaughter, Brooke Anne Fountain on July 14, 1986; two sisters, Stella Fountain and Mary Fralick; and his three brothers; Barth Bogetto of Negaunee, Frank Bogetto of Gwinn, and Martin (Tino) Bogetto of Gwinn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 25th at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn with Rev. Allan Mott officiating.
Burial will be in the Gwinn Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am in the Baraga Room of St. Anthony Church on Tuesday.
