Arnold A. Zorza
MARQUETTE, MI – Arnold Angelo Zorza, 84, of 1221 Sherman Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Monday morning, March 17, 2014 at Marquette General Hospital.
Born December 29, 1929, in Marquette, a son of Angelo and Matilda (Pantti) Zorza, Arnold was raised in Marquette. He served in the US Navy from 1948 to 1950, aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, attaining the rank of Fireman. On July 15, 1949, he married the former Helen Marie “Bunny” Meyers at St. Peter Cathedral and together the couple established a home and raised their family in Marquette. Arnold was employed at the former Piqua-Munising Wood Products for a time before working as a mechanic at Dixon Buick. He later operated J. C. Bullock’s Sinclair gas station, continuing to work as a mechanic. Throughout the years, Arnold was also employed with Don Britton Construction and Lindberg and Sons, retiring in the late 1970’s. Arnold enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, fishing, and hunting, spending time at camp and an occasional “Blatz Beer.” He was an avid Tiger baseball, Red Wing hockey, and NASCAR racing fan.
Survivors include his wife, Helen “Bunny” Zorza; a daughter, Sandra (Bruce) Kivela of Big Bay; two sons, James (Jayne) Zorza of Marquette and Rick (Linda) Zorza of Marquette; his grandchildren, Wendy (Bill) Bollenberg and Robert Kivela, Jennifer (Mike) Marietti, and Jill Zorza; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Haley Marietti; brothers, Calvin (Joan) Zorza of Marquette, Paul Zorza residing in Marquette, Angelo “Juts” (Susan) Zorza and Tom (Mary) Zorza both of Marquette; brother-in- law, Robert Sherman of California; his sister-in- law, Susan Zorza of Arnold; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Arnold was preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine Thibodeau and husband, Albert, and Carol Sherman; brothers, Harold, Kenneth, Marvin, Jerry, Robert “Coonie”, and Dan “Squeaky” and his wife, Roberta Zorza.
A celebration of Arnold’s life will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014 at the American Legion from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
