Service club award winners are all most deserving
Several local service clubs handed out community-based awards Monday to recipients who we believe all agree are most deserving.
Michele Butler, owner of Vango’s Pizza and Cocktail Lounge in Marquette and a member of the Downtown Marquette Rotary Club, was the recipient of the Rotary International 2013-14 Service Above Self Award.
Butler received the award for her humanitarian and volunteer efforts Monday at a joint meeting with local rotary clubs at the Holiday Inn.
And then, the Zonta Club of the Marquette Area celebrated Zonta Rose Day on Monday with an awards luncheon at the Federated Women’s Club House in Marquette.
A dozen members of the community were honored for their work to make Marquette a better place for women and children.
Those winners included Maryellen Charbonneau, Tori Sager, Kathy Davis, Kim Frost, Heather Hollands, Amy Laitinen, Victoria Leonhardt, Margaret Olesnavage, Rita Rossway, Pam Stewart and Stan and Carol Wright.
All of the winners are stars in their own right. Let us take this opportunity to congratulate them for helping make the greater Marquette area the extraordinary place it is.
