NMU swimming and diving: Lawrence turns in another All-American time at NCAA Championships
GENEVA, Ohio – Northern Michigan University junior Debbi Lawrence placed sixth in the 100-yard butterfly in 55.38 seconds on Thursday at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
On Day 1 Wednesday, Lawrence earned All-American honors by finishing fifth in the 50 freestyle.
“We had a good second day,” NMU head coach Heidi Voigt said. “It was great to see Debbi get another All-American performance.”
NMU junior Madisen Sechena finished 19th in the 400 individual medley (4:31.51) and freshman Rachel Borchardt took 31st in the 200 freestyle (1:55.22)
NMU’s 200 freestyle relay team failed to make it out of the preliminaries while the 400 medley relay was disqualified in the consolation finals due to a false start.
The Wildcats are in 14th place with 51 points.
“Our false start in the relay to get disqualified put us back, but tomorrow should be a better day with diving and our other strong swimming events,” Voigt said.
