‘Ski and Shoe’ for the Cure
MARQUETTE – The Noquemanon Trail Network’s Forestville trails will host a “Ski and Shoe for the Cure!” event Saturday to help raise money for cystic fibrosis research.
The non-competitive 5K ski and 2.5K snowshoe excursion will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Forestville Trail Head.
A $25 donation gets attendees a full-day pass to hit the Forestville trails with their cross-country skis and snowshoes, as well as a Border Grill lunch, raffle tickets and a donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Cystic Fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that affects the lungs.
“Its main attribute is the build-up of thick, sticky mucus in the lungs, causing frequent infections, lung damage and eventual lung failure,” said Erin Mahaney, the event’s organizer, in a letter about the event.
Mahaney herself suffers from the disease, and hopes that she can raise money for research into new drugs that could prolong the lives of those afflicted with CF as well as counteract some of its symptoms.
“I lost two close friends to this disease last year and I hope that by raising money for CF through my fundraiser, I can help aid in developing new drugs to find a cure,” she said. “Many exciting new drugs are in late stages of research now, with virtually all of the development cost being funded by the CF Foundation.”
The event will also include a silent auction/raffle with items such as a 2013 autographed Green Bay Packers football, an autographed and framed picture of Nicklas Lidstrom of the Detroit Red Wings, Columbia Sportswear men and women’s jackets and four tickets to Cedar Point.
People unable to attend but still interested in making a donation, or people looking for more information can contact Erin Mahaney at 361-3904, or email email@example.com.
