Sylvia E. Stevenson
MUNISING, MI. – Sylvia E. Stevenson, 94, of Munising, died Saturday afternoon, March 8, 2014, at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising.
She was born March 1, 1920, in Newberry, a daughter of the late Peter and Gertrude (Molly) Fleck. On June 16, 1951 she married Murray Stevenson and he preceded her in death in 1994.
Sylvia worked in Detroit as a “Rosie Riveter” on airplane wings during WWII. Later, after moving to Munising with her family, she was employed as a housekeeper, worked at the Red Cedar Restaurant and later, Munising Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide.
Sylvia was a member of the Munising Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed many trips to Alaska to visit her daughter.
She is survived by her children, Gaynelle (Byron) Longstreet of Bremerton, WA, Rebecca (Armin) Gollannek and Al Stevenson, both of Munising; grandchildren, Megan & Jennifer Stevenson; step-grandchildren, Rachel (Danny) Alexander and Eric Gollannek; and great-grandsons, Landon, Odin & Willem. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Tillie Niedzwiecki; and brothers, Walter, Boris & Adolf Fleck.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
