NMU women’s hoops: Wildcats win GLIAC title, clinch NCAA tournament berth
MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team won the 2014 GLIAC Women’s Basketball Tournament Championship on Sunday with a 53-49 victory over Malone University on the campus of Wayne State University in Detroit.
NMU junior guard Lauren Gruber led the Wildcats with 19 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. She shot 5 of 9 from the field and hit 7 of 8 of her free throws. Fellow junior guard Alyssa Colla had 11 points for the Wildcats.
The GLIAC title is the first for the Wildcats’ women’s program since 2000.
NMU also clinches a berth in the NCAA Division II women’s basketball tournament. It last reached the national tourney in 2010.
