Anita Lucille Mattson
WEST VALLEY CITY, UT. – “Sweetest Mother Ever”, Anita Lucille Mattson, 96, passed away March 1, 2014 in West Valley City, Utah.
Born January 13, 1918 in Floodwood, Minnesota, daughter of Hjalmer and Hilja Maria Johnson Laurie. She attended Ishpeming High School and BYU Nursing prerequisites. Married Albert John Mattson June 12, 1937 in Ishpeming, Michigan and were married for 72 years; he preceded her in death April 2, 2009.
Mom enjoyed writing letters and poetry, art, crocheting, cooking, baking, sewing, reading and word games, especially Scrabble. She speaks Finnish and is proud of her Finnish heritage.
Survivors include her children, Roger (Karen) Mattson of Duluth, Minn., Paul (Dorothy) Mattson of Bridgeport, Mich., Miles (Nancy) Mattson of Marquette, Mich., Dean Mattson of West Valley City, Utah, and Karen (Bob) MacArt of Sandy, Utah; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Armas Hamari and Armond Laurie.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 8, 2014, in Salt Lake City.
