NMU Olympic Training Site weightlifters set records

MARQUETTE – Personal records were set by each of five Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site student-athletes who competed over the weekend at the Arnold Weightlifting Championships.

“The Arnold isn’t our most important meet, but it’s a great tune up for our athletes. It falls right between the American Open and the Senior Championships,” coach Vance Newgard said. “It’s especially important for Vanessa McCoy. Her performance should put her in good shape to make the Pan-American championships team.”

McCoy won the 63-kilogram category with a total lift of 186 kg (410.1 pounds), consisting of a personal best of 86 kg in the snatch and 100kg in the clean and jerk.

In the 105 kg class, Brian Budd set personal records in all three categories, his snatch of 132 kg, clean and jerk of 113 kg and total of 245 kg (540.2 lbs.).

In the 69 kg class, Holly Kreminski had two career lifts with 69 kg in the snatch and 84 kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 163 kg (359.6 lbs.).

Marquette natives Annie Bengry and Holly O’Dovero hit career high totals, Bengry with 108 kg (238.2 lbs.) in the 53 kg class and O’Dovero with 127 kg (280.0 lbs.) in the 58 kg class.

Bengry lifted 48 kg in the snatch and 60 kg in the clean and jerk, while O’Dovero hoisted 56 kg in the snatch and 71 kg in the clean and jerk.
