NMU Nordic skiing: Wildcats honored for academics
MARQUETTE – A total of 11 members of the Northern Michigan University Nordic ski team have been named to the 2014 National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team.
Selected through the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association were the following Wildcats: Kyle Bratrud (3.81/criminal justice); Sam Elfstrom (3.71/elementary education/math); Ben Hugus (3.85/secondary education/biology); Krystof Kopal (3.84/finance and risk management); Adam Martin (4.0/mathematics); and Fredrik Schwencke (4.0/mechanical engineering tech).
Also, Hannah Boyer (3.93/sports science); Malin Eriksson (3.94/economics); Rosie Frankowski (4.0/public administration); Felicia Gesior (3.88/elementary ed/social studies; and Sophie Schimpl (3.70/public relations).
“For the past 25 years, the skiers have maintained a high GPA,” NMU head coach Sten Fjeldheim said. “They take both their studies and training seriously.”
Honorees must compete in an NCAA Regional competition and maintain a cumulative 3.5 grade point average in the classroom.
