Prep boys basketball: Mustangs, Cougars gain All-CUP honors

MARQUETTE – Munising and Superior Central are represented on the All-Central U.P. Conference boys basketball team released Tuesday.

Junior Ben Stasewich of Munising made the First Team, while teammate and junior Austin Kelto gained a berth on the Second Team.

Kelto was also named the CUP Defensive Most Valuable Player.

Senior Nick Maki of Superior Central made the All-Defensive Team, while SC’s Cody Maki earned the Free Throw Award by shooting 24 of 27 for 89 percent. Senior Travis Vincent of North Central was named the league’s MVP.

The All-CUP list:

First Team – Junior Ben Stasewich, Munising; junior Rob Granquist and freshman Jason Whitens, North Central; senior Keenan Lampinen, Carney-Nadeau; senior Cole Potvin, Big By de Noc; and senior Kyle Kleiman, Bark River-Harris.

Second Team – Senior Dionte Blahnik, Carney-Nadeau; senior Evan Winkelbauer, Mid Peninsula; junior Austin Kelto, Munising; senior Jake Pearson, Rapid River; senior Trevor Ekberg, North Central.

Honorable mention – Colin Immel, Munising; Cody Maki, Superior Central.

All-Defensive Team – Blahnik, C-N; Pearson, Rapid River; senior Josh Granquist, North Central; Potvin, Big Bay de Noc; senior Nick Maki, Superior Central.

Individual Sportsmanship – Josh Granquist, North Central.

Team Sportsmanship – Mid Peninsula.

Free Throw Award – Cody Maki, Superior Central.
