Promotion successful

To the Journal editor:

On behalf of the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter, I’d like to thank all the wonderful Northern Michigan University Wildcat Hockey fans who brought needed wish list items and made monetary donations at the hockey game between NMU and MTU on Feb. 22.

Our game has been sponsored for a few years now by Downtown EyeCare (thanks Dr. Jon and Jenny Webb) but this year was exceptional. The NMU Athletic Department gave us a lot of help organizing student volunteers, decorating the ‘wish list’ boxes and donation canisters and kept us on track all evening.

This year we had a friendly competition going on with the Copper Country Humane Society to see who could gather the most donations. The CCHS was at Friday’s game up in Houghton and we were at Saturday’s game at NMU.

Even though UPAWS gathered more needed supplies and donations, it was a win for both shelters. And even though the Wildcats didn’t win the game, NMU hockey fans made our evening a big win for our shelter.
