Prep gymnastics: MSHS places seventh at regionals

MARQUETTE – With three athletes competing in each event but beam, the Marquette Senior High School girls gymnastics team placed seventh out of 12 teams in Region I competition Saturday in downstate Rockford.

The Redettes of head coach Kris Lakenen finished with 100.75 points. Winner Grand Ledge totaled 145.05.

“(Tournament officials) only give out places 1-10 at the regional meet,” Lakenen said. “Our girls did not place in the top 10, so none of them are moving on to state (competition).

“(But) It was a great season for the team.”
